Air India Opens Major Warehouse in Delhi for Engineering Spares
Mumbai, Air India announced on Friday the commissioning of a large warehouse facility in Delhi designed to store over 1,000,000 engineering spares for aircraft maintenance. This centralized warehouse, spanning 54,000 square feet, is located near Terminal 3 at Delhi Airport’s cargo complex. The new facility is expected to enhance the turnaround time for flights operating out of Delhi.
Comprehensive Storage Solution
The new warehouse will serve as a one-stop solution for storing various aircraft spares, tools, and ground support equipment. It will accommodate a wide range of items from basic hardware to complex avionics, hydraulics, structural components, pneumatic systems, and mechanical parts.
Boosting Operational Efficiency
“This facility will not only boost Air India’s fleet and operational efficiency but will also strengthen India’s aviation ecosystem,” stated Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson. “The warehouse will offer us more proximate access to and better control over our aircraft spares, enabling us to meet any engineering requirement promptly, leading to improved punctuality of flights.”
Centralized Maintenance Hub
The warehouse is set to meet the engineering resource requirements for the maintenance and service of Air India, Air India Express, and AIX Connect fleets. It integrates 16 smaller, scattered locations across Delhi and Mumbai into one consolidated, state-of-the-art facility. This centralization will function as a hub and feeder network for operations across India, streamlining airline functions and ensuring better inventory control.
Strategic Location for Quick Response
Located close to Air India’s aircraft hangars at Terminal 3 of the IGI airport, the warehouse’s strategic position will facilitate the swift movement of spares to address technical issues promptly. This proximity ensures that Air India can maintain high operational standards and respond quickly to any maintenance needs.
By enhancing the efficiency and control over its engineering spares, Air India aims to improve the punctuality and reliability of its flight operations, thereby contributing to a more robust aviation ecosystem in India.
