Thermal Camera Technology for Detecting Coronavirus in Crowds
Amid the escalating coronavirus crisis in India, startups in the country are innovating solutions to combat the spread of the virus. Staqu, an Indian startup, has developed a thermal camera capable of identifying COVID-19 positive cases even in densely populated areas.
The technology operates by alerting the system if an individual in the crowd registers a body temperature exceeding 37°C. Additionally, it can analyze heat signatures directly through the camera lens. With a range of 100 meters, the camera is suitable for deployment in high-traffic locations such as airports and shopping malls.
Upon detection, the system sends real-time alerts, aiding authorities in tracking individuals with positive cases. Given the tendency for potential suspects to evade hospitalization and quarantine, this innovation presents a valuable tool for law enforcement agencies.
Atul Rai, CEO and Co-founder of Staqu, elaborated on the capabilities of the technology, emphasizing its role in automating early detection processes and facilitating proactive preventive measures. Rai expressed hope that governmental bodies and relevant authorities would leverage this advancement effectively.
This cutting-edge technology is integrated into Staqu’s existing video analytics product, JARVIS, reflecting the startup’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies for societal benefit.
Staqu specializes in futuristic technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and facial recognition. Its AI-powered video wall, an extension of the JARVIS platform, is deployed across 70 prisons in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Leveraging data from 700 cameras within UP’s prisons, JARVIS conducts comprehensive surveillance, including frisking, unauthorized access detection, crowd analysis, violence monitoring, and intrusion detection.
Founded in 2015, Staqu achieved profitability earlier this year and has forged partnerships with various state police departments across India. Following its initial collaboration with the Rajasthan police force after the Alwar lynching incident, Staqu gained traction within law enforcement circles. The startup’s success in assisting police investigations has led to endorsements from officials, resulting in collaborations with police departments in Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Telangana.
Staqu’s contributions exemplify the potential of technology-driven solutions in addressing public health challenges and enhancing law enforcement capabilities. By harnessing innovative approaches, startups like Staqu play a pivotal role in mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and bolstering societal resilience.
