Google’s Gboard Gets AI-Powered Features
During the I/O 2023 developer conference, American tech giant Google unveiled several announcements concerning artificial intelligence (AI) integration into its applications. Among these announcements, one significant update is coming to Gboard, a popular app from the company, which is set to receive multiple new features thanks to the integration of generative AI.
AI-Powered Features
According to a report by 9to5Google, Gboard is gearing up to introduce AI-powered features such as proofreading, stickers, stylus handwriting, and more. These features have been spotted in the Gboard v13.3 beta and are expected to roll out soon for regular users.
Generative AI Proofreading
Google will leverage generative AI to introduce a “proofread with Gboard” feature, allowing users to correct spellings, grammar, and punctuation with a simple tap. This functionality will be accessible from the toolbar, and users will have the option to rate each suggestion as helpful or not helpful.
Generative AI Tone
Another AI-powered feature in the pipeline is the “Generative AI Tone,” similar to Gmail’s “Help Me Write” feature. With this addition, users can select text and prompt Gboard to adjust the tone, transitioning from casual to formal or vice versa.
Generative AI Stickers – Emogen
Google is also developing “Emogen,” a feature offering generative AI stickers to users. Emogen will enable users to create emoji-style stickers by inputting a prompt, eliminating the need to search for a specific sticker. This AI-driven approach streamlines the sticker creation process, enhancing user experience. Currently, Google offers Emoji Kitchen, which merges two existing stickers into one.
Stylus Handwriting
To cater to users who utilize stylus devices, Gboard will introduce a stylus handwriting feature. This update will include gestures like scratch out, insert, join, new line, and more, simplifying the typing experience for stylus users.
These upcoming AI-powered features represent Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance Gboard’s functionality and provide users with more intuitive and personalized experiences.
