Preserving Tradition: Сukiernia Pastry Shop by YOD Group

The transformation of the iconic Lviv pastry shop, Сukiernia, which has been a staple since 2000, was undertaken by YOD Group. The project embarked on a quest for new meanings and symbols for Сukiernia while delicately preserving its rich heritage and tradition.

Mono Materials and Nuances

Central to the project is the use of mono materials and the artful play with nuances. Marble and a unique eggshell plaster serve as the primary materials, complemented by light wood and brass accents. Italian marble in warm creamy tones adorns the horizontal surfaces, evoking the caramel veins found in layered cakes, imparting a sense of opulence and luxury to the space.

Eggshell Plaster

The walls of Сukiernia are adorned with a unique eggshell plaster, specially created for the project. More than a ton of eggshells, generously donated by a Ukrainian poultry farm, were meticulously washed, dried, and crushed to create the plaster. The challenge lay in achieving the perfect texture and color, with experiments leading to the incorporation of brown eggshells to achieve the desired warm hue.

Visual Depth and Airiness

To combat the limited daylight, a light color palette and arched niches-windows were incorporated to visually expand the space. Pendant lamps by Aromas del Campo, with their rounded shapes, complement the arches and furniture, adding to the overall ambiance of airiness and elegance.

Upholding Tradition

Time-honored bentwood chairs and wooden tables, remnants of the former interior, were carefully restored and integrated into the design. A massive antique cabinet from the Lviv Secession period, sourced from the owner’s private collection, serves as a nod to tradition, enriching the space with historical charm.

In essence, YOD Group’s transformation of Сukiernia Pastry Shop successfully marries tradition with innovation, creating a space that pays homage to its past while embracing the future.
